Interview With Neil Patel

Neil Patel is an entrepreneur, digital marketing specialist and an angel investor. Neil's resume can be probably called more than awesome. Probably an all rounder of SEO industry. At the age of 21, he was on the list of "The Wall Street Journey" as one of the top influencers on the web and also on Entrepreneur Magazine who listed as Top Entrepreneur of the nation.

In addition his popular software solution, CrazyEggs and KISSMetrics is used by some of the most popular and well named companies like Amazon, AOL, HP etc. He has been also the speaker of 100's of web marketing conferences such as SMX, web 2.0 and more. He had also helped TechCrunch to boost their traffic by 30% within 60 days.

1. Although there is no need for your introduction but for formality, can you please introduce yourself. 

Hi, I am Neil Patel. co-founder of Crazy Egg, Hello Bar and KISSmetrics . I enjoy blogging and helping people generate traffic through content marketing & SEO.

2. How did the idea came in your mind to start your own company which would create a milestone in the SEO Industry. 

I have been doing SEO for years and really wanted to share my experiences with everyone. Content Marketing is something I am very passionate about. My main focus nowadays is helping people generate amazing content that really converts visitors into buyers.

3. Your thoughts on Black Hat vs. White SEO tactics and the effects of each. 

I am not a fan of Black Hat techniques. Google’s algorithm updates make it virtually impossible to sustain traffic using Black Hat techniques. I am a firm believer that white hat techniques such as using great content to build links is a more long term solution.

4 How important is the word "Niche" for blogging success?

It is immensely important. You really have to know your audience and the respective buyer personas for your niche. I always stress the importance of surveying to everyone I talk to.

5. QuickSprout; Probably the ideal blog for leaning SEO. How much time you are devoting to build this blog much better? 

I love it and spend a decent amount of time on it. I really try to create content that people can use as a blueprint for their own blog or website. I am passionate about writing and have spent a number of years building out my reader base. It is something I am very proud of. I like to share information freely and my blog is the best way to do so.

6. What if KISSmetrics become a 100 million dollar company then what are your next plan?

I honestly wouldn’t change much. I am very passionate about helping other people learn SEO & content marketing. I would continue to blog and speak at the many conferences I attend yearly.


7. How would you like to describe your success story under 50 words?

Hard work, great timing and a little luck. I have worked since I was high school. I have always tried to push myself to be better. One thing that people often lose sight of is the end goal. You really have to be patient to achieve your goals.

8. What are the steps to take to build up a successful blog.

Content Marketing. I can’t stress this enough. You really have to build out your audience through the creation of original content. When I first started my blog I had that focus in mind and I have seen great results.

9. In your views - how podcasting plays a role in SEO and any two strategies that are working in SEO today. 

Podcasting plays a decent role, assuming the content is really good. But two strategies that are more effective is creating massive content guides like the ones I have on Quick Sprout, as well as webinars.

10 Any suggestion to the womans who are blogging as they have to blog and take care of their families and children too. Also they have to comment, see the social media reciprocate visits and do all that men bloggers do. Would you like to advice for them? 

I don’t think the advice I would give women is any different than what I would give to men. I think where there is a will there is a way. I work from sun-up to sun-down yes I still find time to do what I am most passionate about: write blog posts.

11. Is it really challenging to face the upcoming Google Algorithms? What you would like to tell about this? 

I wouldn't worry about the algorithm updates. Just focus on what is best for your users and in the long run you should do well. You can't control Google's updates, so might as well focus on providing value to your customers.

12. How you are taking the advantage of Social Media Signals in SEO today? 

I have a huge following on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google Plus. I post all of my content to each respective channel and have seen great results. It’s all about acting as your own P.R. rep to get all your content out.

13. At the age of 21, you have faced a great loss of One Million Dollars, was it a really challenging moment for you? How you faced it? 


It was devastating. However, it really helped me grow as an entrepreneur. It made me realize that nothing is final. I just brushed off my shoulders and kept going.

14. Tell us something different about yourself that we, your followers don't know.  

Before I sat myself in front of a computer 24/7 I was a huge fan of basketball. I would play basketball every day. I still love basketball to this day. Whenever I get the chance I try to catch a game.
